Project Manager | Traverse city, Saginaw & Ann Arbor

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill Project Manager positions within our Traverse City, Ann Arbor & Saginaw offices. There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the overall construction effort on projects ranging from $100k to $8M.
  • Write and manage subcontract agreements.
  • Ensure that project coordination, scheduling, and budget requirements are met.
  • Maintain effective communication with all project partners to ensure project success.
  • Foster relationships with project partners to ensure the future success of the organization.
The ideal candidate would have:
  • 5 +years of commercial construction experience.
  • Four-year degree in engineering, construction, or business related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office,
  • Proficiency with industry standard scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, etc)
  • Experience with concrete and carpentry ‘self-perform’ work preferred.
  • OSHA 30 hr preferred
  • Local experience and contractor knowledge preferred.
  • Strong negotiation & dispute resolution skills required.
  • Strong estimating skills required.

Estimator | Saginaw & Traverse City

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill two Estimator positions.  One position is with our Great Lakes Bay Region Office, located in Saginaw, Michigan. The second position is with our Northern Michigan Region Office, located in Traverse City, Michigan.  There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare preconstruction estimates for projects in planning phases.
  • Prepare hard bid general contract bids.
  • Prepare concrete and general trades packages.
  • Assist corporate and project management to determine what types of projects to bid.
  • Participate in presentations to corporate management and project partners.
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of facility studies.
The ideal candidate would have:
  • 5 +years of commercial construction experience with an emphasis in estimating.
  • Four-year degree in an engineering or construction related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with industry standard scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, etc)
  • Local experience and contractor knowledge.

Field Superintendent | Saginaw & Ann Arbor

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a Field Superintendent position to service our Saginaw and Ann Arbor markets.  There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce and manage project schedules.
  • Coordinate construction tasks for General Contracting project deliveries.
  • Manage and coordinate manpower for self-performed and subcontracted trade work.
  • Enforcement of Corporate Safety Policies.
  • Generate and Track RFI’s.
  • Oversee Quality Control.
  • Maintain Project As-Builts.
  • Reports Directly to General Jobsite Superintendent.
The ideal candidate would have:
  • 5-10 years of experience in supervising Commercial Construction.
  • Proficiency in understanding building plans, specifications, and contractor scopes of work.
  • Familiarity with MS Project and Excel.
  • OSHA 30 Hour Training.
  • Familiarity with concrete formwork systems.
  • Carpentry experience related to concrete forming and general trade work.
  • Self-starter characteristics with ability to set goals and tasks with strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Office Administrator | Traverse City

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a multi-faceted and diverse position within the Traverse City office.  There is a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills, necessary to fulfill this role.  As you review the preliminary job description outline below, please consider that in general, the description is in order of priority.  As one moves into III and IV, the position becomes much more involved.  We are willing to train individuals into the roles of III and IV, but will also certainly consider those that are currently able to handle those tasks.

II. Bid Liaison – Reporting to Estimators

    Ordering drawings and setting them up on the Sharefile site
    Organize Bid files
    Invitations to Bid – Utilizing Power Tools
    Sending out bid notifications- Addendums
    Bid Bonds and insurance requirements
    Cost estimates for misc. items needed for bids (housing, specialties, permits, testing) and job specific items
    Specification Front End Review
    Plan reading/Misc. takeoff
  • Bid Forms
    Support to Bid Manager and Estimator
    Follow up for subcontractor coverage with phone calls and emails

III. Project Administration

  • Assisting PMs and PAs (as time allows)
  • Organizing and assembling closeout documents for projects
  • Certificates of insurance management

IV. Marketing and Sales – Reporting to PD

  • Builder’s Exchange(s)
  • Misc Web sites/research
  • Make initial contact/follow-up with potential clients
  • Support/Assist/Coordinate with Marketing Department
