Safety Manager | Traverse City

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal guidelines. They conduct or schedule training sessions, monitor compliance, investigate accidents, and provide recommendations for improvement. They also communicate guidelines to employees, report on health and safety issues, and develop relevant policies to maintain a safe workplace. Their focus is on promoting occupational health and safety and minimizing risks for employees.

Responsibilities
  • Assuring compliance with the Site Health and Safety plan and USACE Safety Manual
  • Implement and enforce project Safety Plans/Programs
  • Conduct daily safety meetings with on-site personnel, conduct safety audits, evaluate work activities, and identify process improvements
  • Ensure worker certifications and trainings are current
  • Create Activity Hazard Analysis, maintain records, and implement lessons learned/safety process improvement program
  • Interface with program and project managers, senior technical staff, government customers, and project field personnel
  • Monitoring personnel, inspections, stormwater controls, and equipment inspections
  • Be present during all work performed (may include extended hours and weekends, as well as working in inclement weather)
The ideal candidate would have
  • Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction OR if the applicant has a Third-Party, Nationally Accredited (ANSI or National Commission for Certifying Agencies – NCCA) SOH-related certification, only four (4) years of experience is needed
  • Current OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Familiarity with US Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills

Concrete Construction Superintendent | Traverse City

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager is looking to fill a Concrete Construction Superintendent position to service our Northern Michigan market, based from our Traverse City office.

Responsibilities encompass the total supervision of all concrete operations at the site to which the individual is assigned. Superintendent must ensure that all employees and subcontractors are working in strict adherence to plans, specifications, schedule, safety, and corporate standards within the confines of the project’s established budget while maintaining a clean and organized job site.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of concrete construction including layout, foundations, walls, formwork, rebar installation, fine grading, slab prep, SOG placements, SOMD, elevated slabs, and site concrete.
  • Demonstrate productivity, organization and leadership. Instill this in your crew.
  • Organize and oversee field labor to ensure strict adherence to schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure execution of work within the project’s budget in terms of manpower, production, and material expenditures.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety guidelines, hazard awareness, and solutions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with contract documents and quality control programs.

This position is with our Great Lakes Bay Region Office, located in Saginaw, Michigan but would estimate projects throughout Michigan. Responsibilities
  • Perform quantity take offs from plans and specifications
  • Prepare hard bid general contract (GC) bids
  • Prepare concrete and general trades bid category bids
  • Attend pre-bids, jobsite walk thru meetings, and post-bid meetings
  • Assist corporate and project management to determine what types of projects to bid
