the Project study

The original structure, completed in 1998, no longer met the program and space needs of The University of Michigan’s softball program, and so plans were implemented to demolish the existing building and construct a larger and more modern facility.

New amenities not found in the previous building include a Hall of Fame, located adjacent to the first-floor entry, and enhancements to the athletic training facilities with two new rooms, including hydrotherapy. The coaching staff has been moved from offices in Weidenbach Hall to this new center with space looking into Alumni Field from the second floor.

There are also several new team meeting areas on the second and third floors to promote team activities and off-the-field video study. A roof terrace on the third floor provides unparalleled views of Alumni Field and the entire Wilpon Complex.

Locker rooms for players and coaches, staff offices, a team meeting room, athletic medicine and fitness spaces, hydrotherapy pools, and support space were also created. This project also involved site restoration including the plaza and extension of a water main loop through that area for increased fire protection.
