the Project study
Spence Brothers was awarded the concrete and general trades packages for this new athletics complex supporting over 280,000sf in athletics performance, training, and support spaces. This complex will become the future home for the University of Michigan men’s and women’s track and field, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and women’s rowing.
The project will include an indoor and outdoor track competition venue for 2,000 and 500 spectators respectively. In addition, a lacrosse stadium will be built on the site that will accommodate 2,000 spectators. A consolidated performance team center is more cost-effective to provide specialized team spaces and shared resources for strength and conditioning, athletic medicine, a performance lab, meeting space and locker rooms. When completed, the development will allow hosting of home, regional, and national competitions, and will be used by students participating in recreational sports.
Spence Brothers provided general trades labor to support the construction of the Sports Performance Center as well as placing the concrete slabs and cast-in-place concrete for that building and the Lacrosse Complex and Outdoor Track. In total, more than 6,900 cubic yards of concrete were included in those phases of the project.
