Safety Manager | Traverse City
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal guidelines. They conduct or schedule training sessions, monitor compliance, investigate accidents, and provide recommendations for improvement. They also communicate guidelines to employees, report on health and safety issues, and develop relevant policies to maintain a safe workplace. Their focus is on promoting occupational health and safety and minimizing risks for employees.
Responsibilities
- Assuring compliance with the Site Health and Safety plan and USACE Safety Manual
- Implement and enforce project Safety Plans/Programs
- Conduct daily safety meetings with on-site personnel, conduct safety audits, evaluate work activities, and identify process improvements
- Ensure worker certifications and trainings are current

Construction Site Quality Control Manager | Saginaw
The Construction Site Quality Control Manager will have the responsibility and authority to direct work performed for each project in accordance with the statement of work. This position is directly responsible for the management and oversight of the quality of all in-field installations as it relates to work plans, as well as project specific health and safety programs.
Responsibilities
- Review work plans and develop job-specific Definable Features of Work (DFOW) list
- Develop a job-specific quality control plan and modify as construction and associated plans evolve
- Work with QA to verify that quality control measures have been implemented and expectations are being met
- Attend all progress meetings and coordinate field activities with the Superintendent, Project Manager, Submittal Manager and other relevant team members, includes collaboration to maintain as-built records, as well as resolution of quality, schedule, and/or other issues having a potential project-cost impact

- Subcontractor work oversight and direction to ensure quality craftsmanship and strict adherence to plans and specifications

- Lead bi-weekly DFOW meetings with relevant team members prior to work performance, with additional meetings as required, includes meeting minute-development and distribution, as well as follow-up to verify completion of open tasks

- RECRUITING & HIRING:
Develops and administers an effective recruitment program for experienced hires and entry level positions, helping attract a qualified pool of candidates. - Maintains job descriptions for all salaried positions and organization/accountability chart.
- Coordinate screening and interview process with appropriate Operations Directors and others.
- Manage final selection activities by checking candidate references, conducting background screens, preparing responses to candidates post-interview and managing/tracking all aspects of candidate information.
- ON-BOARDING, ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION:
Coordinates on-boarding process for new personnel, including involvement and necessary preparations by current personnel. - Coordinate ongoing regular check-ins during first year.
- Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values and goals to Company personnel.
- Regularly “re-recruits” current personnel, using “overall comp sheets”, etc.
- TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT:

- EXIT PROCESS & INTERVIEWS:
Coordinate, participate in and document exit interviews for resigning or terminated personnel - Ensure all departing personnel and the company are treated fairly in final compensation arrangements.
- COMPENSATION & BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION:
Assist with analysis and monitoring of salary and wage levels, overall compensation structure and bonus plans. - Assist the Executive Director of Human Resources in evaluating benefit options, company contribution percentages, plan modifications, etc., to ensure that we deliver the best benefits possible to our employee base, acting with budgetary parameters established by the company.
- Accurately administer all benefit programs, including handling enrollments, plan changes, billings, etc.
- Maintain positive relationships with key benefit vendors including health insurance providers, life and disability providers, 401(k) administrators as well as union benefit providers and administrators.
- Act as primary point of contact for our employees and their family members in addressing benefit-related questions or in dealing with issues as they arise.
- Proactively communicate, verbally, by memo, email, etc., with employees, keeping them up-to-date with changes in benefit programs.
- HR COMPLIANCE & DATA MANAGEMENT:
Ensures legal compliance to applicable laws, rules and regulations; consults legal counsel as needed. - Proposes, develops, publishes and enforces Company policies.
- Interface with payroll on all benefit-related issues, ensuring that the company’s record keeping and tax treatment are in compliance. This applies to such benefits as excess life insurance, company vehicle records, etc.
- Maintain all paper personnel files in accurate and up-to-date condition.
- Assume primary responsibility for ensuing that the company’s Human Resource Information System is maintained in up-to-date and accurate status at all times; act as system expert and primary interface with the system vendor to train other HR staff members in maximizing system utilization.
- FUTURE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT:
Assist Regional Project Executives and Project Directors with summer intern program. This includes all activities from determining potential placements for interns, recruiting and selection activities, orientation, and on-going program features such as site visits. - Support and help lead trade/industry workforce development initiatives of community colleges, ISD’s and other community and industry organizations.
The ideal candidate would have
- Bachelor degree in Human Resources Management or closely related field.
- At least five (5) years Human Resources experience, including benefits administration experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in the event that either does not meet the stated requirement.
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HR Bamboo, etc.) to track HR data and assist with HR processes.
- Excellent verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in speaking before a group; strong written communication skills are also required with the ability to independently compose clear explanations and messages to staff.
