Project Manager | Saginaw

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a Project Manager position. This position is with our Great Lakes Bay Region Office, located in Saginaw, Michigan. There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain effective communication with all project partners to ensure project success.
  • Foster relationships with project partners to ensure the future success of the organization.
The ideal candidate would have
  • 5+ years of construction experience
  • Four-year degree in engineering, construction, or business related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Project Accountant | Saginaw

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager is looking to fill a position for a Project Accountant. This position is with our Great Lakes Bay Region Office, located in Saginaw, Michigan. There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities

Primary Activities (risk control)

  • Process subcontractor and vendor payments
  • Scan/import invoices and billings (sworn statements, waivers) into Timberscan
  • Review subcontractor and supplier invoices for accuracy and cost code in Timberscan
  • Coordinate subcontractor invoicing with AR for billing to owner
  • Review subcontractor sworn statements for accuracy
  • Obtain waivers for all sub-tier contractors and vendors
  • Obtain and validate subcontractor insurance information (based on subcontract or owner standards) and input into Procore
  • Control release of subcontractor checks based on receipt of necessary documents
  • Incorporate invoices, sworn statements, waiver and payment information with Procore

Contract Administration

  • Order bonds and insurance certificates per owner contract requirements
  • Assist project manager with contract and change order management

Secondary Activities (general administration)

  • Support estimating and bid efforts
  • Help with bid day activities
  • Call subs for bid responses
  • Order drawings, specs

 

  • Backup of phones and other front desk duties
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail & overnight shipments
  • Process outbound letters
  • Order office, copier/printer, kitchen/restroom supplies

 

  • Miscellaneous office duties as needed to support estimating, project management and sales/marketing. Cross-trained to back up Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
The ideal candidate would have
  • A 2 year degree in an accounting related field or 4 years of equivalent experience or some combination thereof.
  • Strong understanding MS Office suite products and Excel in particular.
  • Previous experience with Sage 300 (formerly Timberline) accounting software and Procore project management software is desirable, but not required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The candidate should be well organized and capable of carrying out tasks independently.

Project Engineer | Traverse City

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager is looking to fill a Project Engineer position to service our Northern Michigan market, based from our Traverse City office. There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities
  • Manage submittal process for all Traverse City based projects
    • Develop submittal logs
    • Collect, review and submit LEED information
    • Manage submittal process utilizing Procore
    • Review submittals prior to submission
    • Track and make follow up calls to subcontractors and architect
    • Visit project jobsites as needed
    • Assist Superintendents with jobsite tasks
  • Assist with closeout process
    • Prepare closeout logs
    • Contact subcontractors and coordinate their submissions
    • Review closeouts
    • Assemble closeouts manuals
  • Assist with document management for Traverse City based projects
    • Import and process drawings into Procore
    • Import and process specifications into Procore
    • Facilitate document scanning and storage into Procore
  • Assist with Preconstruction & Estimating
    • Participate in drawing and specification review process
    • Develop Value Engineering ideas and create logs
    • Attend Prebid Meetings
The ideal candidate would have
  • Associates Degree (minimum)
  • Construction Related Degree Preferred

Construction Estimator | Saginaw

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager is looking to fill a position for Hard Bid / Tradework Construction Estimating. This position is with our Great Lakes Bay Region Office, located in Saginaw, Michigan but would estimate projects throughout Michigan. There are a variety of tasks, as well as a variety of skills necessary to be successful in this important role within our company.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quantity take offs from plans and specifications
  • Prepare hard bid general contract (GC) bids
  • Prepare concrete and general trades bid category bids
  • Attend pre-bids, jobsite walk thru meetings, and post-bid meetings
  • Assist corporate and project management to determine what types of projects to bid
  • Assist Project Managers in buyout and issuing subcontracts
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required
The ideal candidate would have
  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience with an emphasis in estimating
  • Four-year degree in an engineering or construction related field (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
