the Project study

USA Hockey purchased the 170,000 square foot Compuware Arena to create a new home for the organization’s national development program in Southeast Michigan. Spence Brothers was hired to complete renovations and additions to the facility to house the national development program for the organization.

Additions include a two-story, 18,000 square foot facility providing new team study areas, conference rooms, staff offices and a 7,000 square foot weight training room. The addition featured precast concrete walls to match the existing facility, along with matching windows.

Previously used as a minor league hockey arena, the existing locker rooms were demolished to create high quality spaces for players and coaches. The two locker rooms were refinished into a radius configuration, orienting the locker faces toward the USA Hockey logo positioned in the center of the room. The team video room included SmartBoards and seating for 55 coaches and players.
