the Project study
This former bank building in the heart of Bay City, Michigan, has undergone a dramatic redevelopment. Completed in 2019, the breathtaking brick romanesque exterior – hidden for a half-century beneath a bland, white metal facade – has been restored to its original style. As the original masonry details on the first floor were replaced with a glass system, the entire first floor facade has been replaced to match the historic design.
The building houses 23 upscale residential apartments and 3 retail and commercial spaces. The project was supported in part by a Federal Historic Tax Credit and a Community Revitalization Program grant through the MEDC.
