We have a proud past,
one with humble
beginnings. Brothers
Hugh and Matthew Spence,
Scottish immigrants
started the company to
rebuild houses lost in
Saginaw's catastrophic
fire of 1893.
By 1910, the company was
working on projects
throughout much of lower
Michigan - a trend
continued through the
twenties, when five
second generation
members of the family
joined the firm.
Government work during
the Depression led
Spence Brothers to North
Carolina, Maryland,
Virginia, West Virginia
and Pennsylvania.
Today, Spence Brothers
is led by third- and
fourth-generation
members of the Spence
family. Each is well
aware of the Spence
family heritage: A
tradition of quality and
integrity. A tradition
that inspires confidence
among clients. A
tradition of great
buildings. And great
builders.
